Different Coffee Break Games   by Edythe White

A coffee break, face it, is a short gathering; a snack time during
downtime practiced by workers all over the country. The terms has spread to such
popularity the world over that people have coffee breaks even when it’s not
coffee they are having. Though said to have been popularized by Americans,
‘coffee break’ is reported to be in use during the late 1800s right in what is
called Stoughton, in Wisconsin. It was practices by the wives of some immigrants
of Norwegian descent.

Stoughton celebrates this “founding” every year though the Stoughton Coffee
Break, a festival where different coffee break activities are held.

Coffee breaks last from ten to twenty minutes, usually, and usually occur
near the 1st third of a given work shift. Some offices hold this at a precise
hour; some share a cart with beverages, hot and cold, along with snacks, and
this is held at the same hours in the morning and in the afternoon.

The break is usually held away from the work area in a cafeteria or an outdoor
area. It is a time for some gossip and even small talk, or a time for a
cigarette. It is a chance to unwind down and “regroup” and have some energy for
the remaining day’s load. Since, now many employees are constantly working from
their computers and prefer to have their coffee on their desks rather than going
to the cafeteria, the concept of coffee break games have gained importance.
People would like not to leave their places and yet have a relaxing time which
is exactly what the coffee break games offer. You can play a few arcade, puzzle,
board and word games on your computer while sipping from your cup of favourite
coffee. These games don’t need any high level skills and they aren’t
addictive unlike computer games. These coffee break games are just to relax you
up a bit so that your mind is diverted from your work and make you feel fresh
after you have had your cup of coffee. Also, these games do not consume much of
your time; these games can be as short as a 5 minute round to a 20 minute round.

You can play free online games from categories including sports, shooting,
racing, classic, casino and cool stuff during your coffee break or free time.
You can also play word games and brain teaser games, puzzle games testing your
skills or play action games suck as Super Collapse 3 game, Gold Rush or Cake
Mania. You may even play card and board games such as Pharaoh’s Classic and
Mahjongg Fortuna. Some online sites even reward points for playing, and these
points are accumulated over time. Few of the favourite coffee break games
have been crossword puzzles, online flash games and sudoku challenge. You may
even play a general knowledge quiz game which is not very taxing on your mind
and at the same time add to your general awareness. However, ‘Pac man’ remains
the favourite with the working class people who prefer playing small games.
There are sufficient games available to attract everyone. There are also set of
games available, each of which does not take much time (may be 10-15 minutes).

Remember life is no fun if it’s all work, work and work. Coffee break games give
people an opportunity to have a bit of fun while in the work area. Enjoy
yourself even while at work, this will only increase your efficiency and
productivity of your work. Some of the coffee break games are so thrilling;
you’ll be waiting for the next coffee break!
